Just a quick note that beta 3 of X-Plane 12 Early Access is available. You should be prompted to auto update the next time you launch the sim, if you haven’t already. Here is a link to Early Access release notes.

Beta 4 is currently in the works, going through test so we can release it next week. We expect to have our first go at fixing the magenta (aka pink or purple) sadness in that release, so please hold off on filing any further bug reports on this until you can try beta 4.

And this just in: X-Plane 12 for Steam is now available!

  1. Hi Jennifer,
thanks for the update regarding beta 3. It’s nice to see X-Plane 12 on Steam.

    I have some questions:
    1) On Steam, X-Plane seems to be still beta 1. When will it be updated to beta 3? Will there always be a relatively long delay for Steam users?
    2) When I pause X-Plane, the menu bar at the top of the screen appears and blocks half of the data output (e.g. frame rate), which is also shown at the top (left). This makes it unreadable. Can you please fix that?
    3) Strangely, X-Plane seems to “think”, that I have an Xbox 360 controller attached. As a result, it never shows the square in the middle of the screen for mouse control. This issue existed for me in X-Plane 11 already and even deleting all X-Plane files
I could find on the PC and reinstalling X-Plane 11 did not help. And now the same exists on X-Plane 12. Is this a known bug? Can I do something to fix that?

    1. We encountered errors when trying to upload beta 3 to Steam last week, but they seem to have gone away so we are retrying today.

      1. Thanks for your reply, Jennifer. So the delay for Steam users should normally only be a few days at most and Steam users should normally get all the new versions that “direct” Laminar customers get?

        1. We try our best to not have much (if any) delay between Steam & the LR “direct” version these days.

  2. Hi, Thanks for the update.
Just curious why 3rd party access to the weather system is an ‘elephant in the room’. Can we be given access to write the cloud/wind layers like in XP11?
    Thanks for any further insight!

  3. For Steam, I think it’s better to wait for beta 4 to update directly to it rather than pushing beta 3.

Just my opinion. Hopefully there will be no significant delays between the builds of the website and Steam versions and that the Steam audience will be able to test all builds and give their feedback.

Keep up the good work, Jennifer.

  4. Can we PLEASE optimize the rendering so that the textures don’t turn into a blurry mess, make a Nvidia Vulkan driver, optimize the vram, do something!!!! The blurries are driving me mad.

Thank for your hard work BTW.

  5. Hi Jennifer,
do you know already what your development priorities will be after leaving early access? Will you continue to improve the terrain textures / autogen within the 12.x development cycle? It would be nice if Laminar could release a development roadmap.

  6. Hello Team,

With Beta 4 I see frequent light flashes that weren’t there in Beta 3.
Those flashes also affect the faraway scenery which seems to flicker.
The issue is not continuous but very annoying when present.
Not sure how to reproduce it.
