I was going to write this post yesterday, and I’m glad I didn’t, because my estimated release time was off by a day.  But 10.30 is now cut and is being mirrored out to our servers.  If things go without hitch, we can hit “go” tomorrow.

In the meantime, you can read about what we did here – after a little bit of cleanup I was able to cut the notes down to ten pages.  Aircraft authors, you’ll want to read the docs on the new GPS and other cockpit issues.

(10.30 is probably better documented as an early beta than any previous beta we have done, both in terms of completeness and detail of changes and release notes, and in terms of new docs on new features.)

  1. What wonders coffee (and magic) hath wrought. Super cool, Ben. Thanks for getting this going for the holiday! You guys have been very busy! Nice documentation of the changes!!

      1. Anyway congrats to the whole team for the upcoming milestone! I will get my alternate folder ready and re-read the release notes ever so SLOoo..wly so I know what to look out for. I hope everything goes smoothly so the team can get a break. (It never ends, does it?)

  2. I’ve got four computers to update, is there a method to download once and then install on the four computers? I’ve noticed that updates in the past slow down as one IP is hogging all the bandwidth and hence gets throttled back.

    1. There isn’t an easy way to do it. But if you have some idea of what was updated and you are brave, you can copy those materials directly to the second computer locally, and the updater will go “hey, that file’s already up to date, I’ll skip it.” The updater does not freak out that your 10.25 already has pieces of 10.30, it just goes “work is done for me.”

So when you update the first machine, enable the “write actions to log” option in options on the first screen, and then you can look at the log for what was DLed.

(Or here’s a hint: if you copy the new GNS430 folder in resources and 1000 world terrain you’ll save both most of the MB and file count of the update. 😉

As always if you ‘hack’ the update and your whole FBO catches on fire, we’re just gonna laugh while hiding the fire extinguishers from you. Good luck!

    2. You could try using window “Sync-Toy”. it is a programme that will check between source and destination files and only copy across those files that do not appear in the destination. I use it to synchronise scenery between different X-Plane computers.

  3. Just wondering, is the bug where if the FPS drops below a certain point (around 10-15fps), your whole aircraft slows down? It’s not in the bug fixes list and I really hope it gets fixed. Thanks!

    1. If it’s not in the bug fix list, it’s not fixed.

Also, we don’t consider this a bug. If your computer is running at 10 fps, we _cannot_ simulate a flight in real time without your airplane being unstable due to mathematical imprecision in the flight model. Please do NOT run X-Plane at 10 fps. If you’re getting 10 fps you need to turn the settings down or turn the computer hw up.

  4. First of all thank you very much for the upgrade, I’m getting it right now on my systems (sequentially) both of them at 10.25.
First things I noticed is the different download size, more than 600Mb for OSX (10.9.3) and a little bit more than 400Mb for windows (8.1 pro 64bit), second thing I noticed is that when the upgrade is downloading files such KSEA.txt.zip, lot of them and almost at the end of the upgrade, the process became very very slow, is that normal?
    Many thanks in advance!

    1. The slow-down is annoying but normal – the current installer doesn’t handle a large number of tiny files well (and 6000 tiny text files for the GPS qualify as tiny :-). There is an update to the installer in the works that, among other things, handles tiny files in bulk. This will make this kind of update quite a bit quicker (and lighten up the overhead on our servers.)

      1. That’s exactly what I supposed, I was wondering why not to use a single zip file containing all those txt files and your answer is a welcome clarification, thank you very much!

        1. The original design was all individual files both for simplicity and so that the update could take the precise files necessary. That design is from v8, and we now have a few directories with a much larger file count than before.

  5. Hi Ben-
Wonderful job on 10.3b. Small question: The ‘view to the horizon’ sharpening that has been discussed appears not to be part of 10.3??

I just bought 32gb x 3 pcs to handle this long-awaited improvement. If it’s not there yet, when would you think it will come, and if it is already there, how can I ‘turn it on’ to get XP to use all 32gb of ram available on each of my triple-PCs / triple-monitors 180-degree FOV layout?

Finally, Miami, FL (KMIA) airport appears to be flooded (under water). The runways are dry, but the grass cutouts between taxi areas and the runways are all full of water…

So far only this airport exhibits the issue.

BTW: Scenery is drop-dead gorgeous in 10.3b
