X-Plane 10.41 release candidate 3 is live – check “get betas” to update to it using our installers, or enable betas on Steam to get it via Steam. Hopefully it will go final within a few days; r3 fixes the stupid version number typo and also fixes a bug in our crash detection analytics and the instructor station.

  1. I just filed a bug because 10.41 rc3 crashes on start-up every time in my Yosemite; it wrote to the desktop, outside x-plane root folder. Returned to 10.40 for the time being, although I am havin issues with that one too.

    1. I think I may have found the source of the problem and indeed I may be the only one with this situation.
For a start, the update to rc3 was made via web updater, which rather unusual for me; I can’t remember the last time I used the web updater.
When I update via installer.app, it reports 3 x-plane instalations:
      1) users/…/Desktop/X-Plane 10
      2)users/…/Desktop
      3)users/…/Desktop/X-Plane default/X-Plane 10
Nr. 1) is my original installation, the one I always have used.
Nr. 2) is a bogus installation, I don’t remember when or how it started to show up; I don’t know how to get rid of it but so far it hasn’t bothered me, since there are no X-Plane files in that location.
Nr. 3) was created by me, from the DVDs, today, for testing.
So, what apparently happened was that the web installer updated the main files in 1) but created some path to 2) and placed there the Output folder and something else. After reporting the bug I realized what could have happened and tried a new update with the installer.app and everything went OK.
I can’t say anything yet about the crashes I was gettin in flight with 10.40, that will need some further testing, but at least the update was successful.

  2. There is a definite return of a systematic small freezes in this version , also the startup is substantially longer .. I tried to file a bug report , but it gave me error HTTP error 403 Forbidden

The best performing version was 10.40Rc1

    1. I’m not sure what the 403 errors are – there’s something wrong with our crash reporter. Please keep trying to report them – we’ll get it fixed.

      1. 403 here also.

happened while reloading plane (Carenado grand caravan) could not send error report

    2. “There is a definite return of a systematic small freezes in this version”

Definitely I have the same problem – no matter whether at the airport or on a cruise … Frames indicator still runs between 20 and 40 … in the first 10.40rc for steam was not the problem …

      1. “There is a definite return of a systematic small freezes in this version”

Seeing this also, and about a 5 FPS drop overall with same settings as 10.40rc1

    1. If you already have 10.40, go get 10.41r3 – it’s going to be final and it has some nice bug fixes.

The 2015 ARB extensions do not have any affect on X-Plane – we have not _already_ modified X-plane to take advantage of extensions announced this summer. And honestly, they’re not that useful to us. The major change will be to adopt a direct Vulkan rendering path (when that becomes possible) – that will be a huge undertaking but has the potential to really change x-plane’s performance.

  3. Ever since I installed 10.40 onwards my x-plane always crashes for no reason at all im useing windows 10. Really annoying now

    1. It’s not Windows 10 and it’s not 10.40/41. I chickened out and reverted to Windows 7 within the “change your mind period” and found I had more problems than with Windows 10. I put Windows 10 back in and found the source of my problems and everything is working great.

X-Plane is better than it has ever been and the work of the team has been phenomenal! Thanks guys.

  4. Took at least 20 minutes on start up reading new scenery files using 10.41 RC3. Once loaded it runs pretty well … I thought let’s try to lower my rendering setting which a typical setting since XP 10.20. Exiting the rendering menu and again it took really long on reading new scenery files … it is even worst because up to this moment it is already more than 30 minutes.

  5. X-Plane 10.41r3 crashes every time you want to reopen a plane. For example when you’ve made a change to something in the .acf file. Also crashes when quitting. Instead of just quitting.

    Thanks.

      1. Thanks for the heads up Ben, I’ll stick with Yosemite for now, as much as I dislike the name 😉

  6. Hello,

X-Plane crashes evertime, if I open a new aircraft.

    My system:
    iMac (i7 & GTX780M 4Gb)
    OSX 10.11 El Capitan

      1. Ben sorry for meticulousness, when do you plan to release the full release X-Plane 10.41 ? By the way in version 10.41 RC 3 very high FPS, great job Ben!

  7. I am running on the latest regular release of XP 10.41 with excellent results on the latest up to date version of Windows 7 as of 0ct 16. I am particularly pleased with it’s stability on my system in normal operational mode.
Now, with this quite stable system operational it is my hope that some incremental work on ATC operations will be possible. I realize that ATC operations must be a never ending problem to implement in such a varied aircraft and scenery environment, but if only a few elemental improvements could be put into the system, it would seem the navigation which is now possible with the New GPS could be integrated into a really big improvement for flying on X-Plane.
Here are a few suggestions of what could be done.
    1. Provide a means for a cancellation of any flight plan at any time in the flight.
    2. Allow Pop-Up filing of flight plans after any cancellation (1) above.
    3. Make a contact with the Tower possible for GPS approaches so that ATC taxi instructions can be obtained upon landing from Ground Control.
    4. Revise the in flight circular notification of off course aircraft for AI aircraft and also for the principle user aircraft. Also make sure that ATC does not assign improper unattainable altitudes to AI aircraft it is flying. This makes a continual notification of bad altitude levels to AI aircraft.
    5. At airfields which lie close to the borders of multiple controller spaces. landing instructions are handed between 2 and sometimes 3 controllers. Perhaps this is a real life condition, but it seems likely that it should not happen.

    1. A lot of this is already on the todo lsit, especially item 4.

I’d like a bug report for (5) including the airfield and (4) for AI aircraft that can’t meet their climb requirements. The off coarse bug is one we already know about.

For canceling IFR, I agree you should be able to cancel in more places. The one I wasn’t sure about is during taxi – if you accept your clearance, request taxi, and then want to cancel and you’re in the middle of the field…what’s ATC supposed to do with you? Perhaps an option to taxi back to the gate might make more sense.

  8. why does xplane now have to force you to get a library pack and wont load a scenery, this never happened before if my memory is correct. 4x today Ive gotten the error that a scenery pack wont load due to missing files or its not installed to begin with. that’s odd because per the desired pack on the Org for example which lists the libraries needed, I did in fact download them so I am confused.

    any guidance, thanks

    1. Your memory is incorrect! X-Plane has -always- required you to have all art assets needed for a scenery pack, for as long as we have used DSFs – that is, since X-Plane 8.0.

There was a relatively recent change (10.35 maybe?):
      – There were a few cases where the sim would not log an error and then CRASH.
      – These cases have been replaced with a warning and the entire scenery pack is skipped.

The reason for the skip is this: the loader cannot proceed without the art asset without crashing – so we skip that DSF entirely to avoid the crash.

There are no cases where the sim _used_ to be able to fully load a DSF with no risk of crash, and now we won’t load it. Cases where there was a crash some of the time have been replaced with errors and not loading the DSF.

  9. Oh thank you, and why theme in the forum for the full official release X-Plane 10.41 not? But скати I have небыло update after RC3 , strange.

  10. when I start X-plane i got a promt for update , but the promt frozen the compute an <i have quit whith the task manager. Windows10 Geforce 660Gti Intel I5

  11. OK, for those who were curious to know how would it be moving from an old AMD Radeon HD 7870 2 GB to a brand new GeForce GTX 980 Ti.

Configuration of X-Plane: 10.41r3, HD Mesh v3 and UHD Mesh v1 Alps by Alpilotx, B757 Professional by Flightfactor. Video res 1920×1080.

With the old GPU I used to obtain between 20 and 30 fps with rendering settings half way between the “LOW” and “MEDIUM” presets (I started from the “LOW” preset and enabled the HDR rendering path – disabling it didn’t make a noticeable difference in terms of framerate). The extended DSF was almost a show-stopper, since the VRAM allocation far exceeded the VRAM physically available (4 GB allocated, 2 GB available) and the framerate used to drop well below 20 fps, so I had to keep it disabled or face abysmal frame rates and occasional CTDs.

With the GeForce GTX 980 Ti I started from the “HIGH” settings and added 4xFSAA. Average framerate is now between 45 and 60 fps. The VRAM allocation is almost identical to the previous AMD GPU (since the “HIGH” preset enables the extended DSF I measured up to 4.1 GB of VRAM allocated – but this time I have enough physical VRAM to support that 😀 )

    So… basically it’s another story 🙂

    Best regards,
    Filippo
